Lithograph in colours. 1937. Commissioned by the ‘Musée du Petit Palais’, Paris and issued as a poster for the important 1937 exhibition ‘Les Maîtres de l'art indépendant, 1895-1937’. Drawn and printed at the Atelier Mourlot, Paris 1937. Very few examples survive in fine condition.
Note: This poster marks the first colaboration between Matisse and Fernand Mourlot. The composition is derived from the oil painting ‘Le Rêve.' painted by Matisse in 1935. The exhibition ‘Les Maîtres de l'art indépendant’ was an important statement on French art just before the Second World War.
Provenance: Mourlot Estate Archive with their stamp on the reverse and a certificate of provenance.
