Gerard Laing, 1936-2011
Original screenprint in colours. 1968. Signed in pencil. Inscribed 'CT. Strokers' and dated in pencil. Numbered (13) from the edition of 150 impressions. Issued by Laing in the portfolio 'Dragsters', 1968 and with the artist's blindstamp.
Note: Laing bridged the Pop Art scene between London and New York. Establishing his own visual language within Pop Art whilst a student at St. Martin's School of Art, London in the early 60's, his work evolved after he moved to New York in 1964. The boldness and simplicity of forms used in the 'Dragster's' images aligns with his American contemporaries such as Lichtenstein and Indiana whilst remaining personal in the thrill and masculine heroism of the drag racing subject.
Superb impression with strong fresh colours. Excellent surface condition. Printed on smooth worve paper. Sheet: 580 x 890mm. Image: 429 x 742mm
