Emil Nolde, 1857-1956
Boot. Fishing Boat.
Original brush-drawn lithograph in black ink. 1907. Signed in pencil. Very rare proof in black ink only; before the edition of 100 (the first 20 impressions were numbered). Printed in Berlin. (Despite the recorded edition this lithograph is very scarce - only four impressions are recorded at auction since 1990). Ref: Schieffler-Mosel - Nolde - Das Graphische Werk no 24
Excellent strong contrasty impression. On cream tinted light wove paper. Excellent condition. Wide (?) full margins. Sheet: 17x21ins. 432x535mm. Image: 13 1/4 x 18 1/2ins. (335x470mm) An extremely fine example of the bold and expressive brush drawing style which Nolde used in some of his best lithographs in the early period before 1910. An important 'Brücke' landscape composition. This is a rare proof before the edition.
