Provenance: Gift from Denise René to the great collector Greta Ströh. 1982.

Note: The painting is in the collection of the Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterloo, Netherlands.

It was at this period that Mondrian began to experiment with the use of a ‘diamond format’ so as to extend the spatial abstraction of the composition

This is one of the most brilliant examples of the perfection of the screenprinting in Arcay’s studio. The painting has a background shadow pattern of diamond shapes in an almost imperceptible grey. These are captured here by making a relief pattern in the background ink using an inkless pressure plate.

Price: £2,000 (approx $2,800) (approx €2.340)
