Drawing in soft pencil (graphite). c. 1920. Fully signed by Cocteau and inscribed: 'Feu du Coeur' - 'With the Fire in my Heart'.

Provenance: Collection Edouard Dermit - The artist's adopted son and also star of many of his early films who inherited the whole contents of the artist's studio. Acquired from Dermit by the US private collector FM.

Note: Homage to the Symbolist Writer and Poet Emile Verhaeren whom Cocteau met and very much admired in the first years of the 20th Century when the writer was living in Rouen.

On pale cream sketchbook paper. Drawn virtually to the full sheet size: 270 x 208mm.
