Note: This important print was Lichtenstein's first work executed in woodcut and issued in an edition prior to 1980. He was guided in the use of the medium by Ken Tyler and fascinated by the precision of shape and power of colour which the medium allowed.

The important 'Modern Heads' series was inspired by Lichtenstein's admiration for the 'Heads' by Von Jawlensky, and other 'machine age' Analytical Cubist works which he saw in the Pasadena Art Museum.
