An extremely fine example of this unusually large format work by Calder.

The interaction of shape and colour are central to Calder’s work in the period of the late 1950’s and 60’s. In 1949 the critic and writer Jean-Paul Sartre wrote that ‘Calder’s work….undulates, hesitates and then takes up the thread again..’  The spiral became a favourite motif in this same period, together with other forms inspired by celestial movements of the sun or stars. In these works there are the same visual effects of unexpected movement created by the combinations of bold line and colour which hold our attention.

It is rare to find really fine impressions of this work, as here, due to its large dimensions.
