Reference: Maeght -  Miró Lithographs no 403.

Very strong sparkling impression with very fresh colours. On pale cream wove Lana paper.  Worked to the full sheet size, as issued.  Sheet: 53.5 x 69.0 cm.

This lithograph, of which impressions very seldom appear on the market, is a superlative example of the creative energy that Miró had for works in this medium in the early 1960s.  In 1960 Miró drew a colour lithograph to appear as the cover for a book about his art issued by Editions Sauret in Monte Carlo. He preserved the plates for this work and four years later he started work on using elements from that composition as an inspiration point for three separate works which he thought of as an inspirational ‘Circle’. The first of these is ‘Hors du Cercle – Outside the Circle’ here.  (The two others are ‘The Broken Circle’ and ‘Circle Cleared’.

This is a work which absolutely typifies the amazing outpouring of forms, colours and  poetic visual  energy coming from Miró’s subconscious mind. Impressions of this great work only appear on the market very rarely. We have only traced one in the last 15 years.
